Marvel’s Phase 4 slate – explained

Get ready for Phase 4, as it promises to be one of the most exciting years yet. This upcoming year promises some seriously impressive-looking series amongst some wonderful movies. While we have had plenty of Marvel-related series, none of them, with a sort-of exception for ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,’ have directly related to the events going on in the movies. Here is what they’re planning for Phase 4.

‘Black Widow’ – Movie, May 2020

The ‘Black Widow’ movie is likely to be set in the past, with some speculating that it will be after the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ This movie will likely uncover some of the darker secrets of Natasha’s past and somehow link in with Nick Fury’s current events. However, there is more information yet to be released.

‘The Falcon and Winter Soldier’ – Series, Fall 2020

Since Disney is bringing out the streaming service ‘Disney +’ they have announced a variety of their own TV series that are due to take to people’s screens. The Falcon and Winter Soldier is one of them, and will likely focus on how they continue the legacy of Captain America together. However, little more has been released other than we will get to see it sometime in fall 2020.

‘The Eternals’ – Movie, November 2020

This is a new introduction of the Eternals based on the related comic books. However, there have already been links to them sewn throughout the MCU. Peter Quill’s father claims to be a Celestial, who are linked to the Eternals, while the Eternals themselves colonized Thanos’ planet. It will be the second movie of phase 4 and will likely start to show fans which direction the MCU is taking.

‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ – Movie, 2021

The MCU is expanding their superheroes, and here we are introduced to a character unlike we have ever seen before. It’s an origins story that shows Shang-Chi discovering some of his father’s dark secrets and eventually deciding whether he would choose the path of righteousness or his father’s path. You can probably guess what comes next.

‘WandaVision’ – Series, 2021

This has been rumored to be a kind of prequel to’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and will focus on the events between the Scarlet Witch and Vision. Of course, since one of the characters is no longer alive, it suggests either we go back in time, or it’s a part of a different universe. Only time will tell.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ – Movie, May 2021

The multiverse was somewhat hinted at in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ with some of Peter’s ramblings. However, fans have speculated that this will be a real introduction to the Multiverse and the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olson, will also feature in this movie.

‘Loki’ – Series, Spring 2021

There has been an awful lot of speculation about this series, and has been described as a sequel to ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ In the recent Avengers movie, we see that, after the Avengers travel back in time, Loki does actually succeed in getting the cosmic cube back. So, although the Loki we all knew has gone, speculation claims that we will be following this version of the God of Mischief.

Despite rumors that this will be a series about Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, it will actually be about Kate Bishop who is going to take up the mantel after aforementioned avenger. It follows the popular comics that also follow Kate Bishop’s journey.

Thor: Love and Thunder – November 2021

Ah, Thor. After ‘Thor Ragnarok’ fans have been scratching at the walls for another Thor movie. This, again, comes with an exciting concept, where Natalie Portman take up the mantle of Jane and becomes female Thor, allegedly wielding Thor’s hammer.
