You can achieve greatness no matter who you are

Does this seem like an extraordinary idea to you? The hero of The Hobbit, Bilbo, is 50 years old when he sets out for his adventure. He was a Hobbit who never wanted to be called audacious – his life was comfortable,he ate well and enjoyed his cozy home. Later, after he sets out on an adventure and becomes the hero of the story, he does not complain but continues to press on. From this, we can learn that no matter who we are, we can always press on in the spirit of adventure.

A great leader understands when to step back

Throughout The Hobbit there are several leadership lessons we can learn from the wizard Gandalf. The most important part of his leadership is the wise elegance of mentorship that endears him to everyone. He travels with Bilbo and the group of dwarves for a distance, but at the end, he leaves them to their own devices.

As a great mentor and leader, you aspire to assist your fellows, especially at the start, but as time goes by, you will have to leave them to make their own decisions. For instance, as a parent, you will hold the hand of your child when they starts to walk, but you cannot hold onto them forever. There is a time you will have to let go, despite the mistakes they will make.

There are things we need to accomplish in our lifetime

When your leader decides the time has come to let you go, you then need to go it alone and face what may come. In The Hobbit, this is what happens to Bilbo when he must kill a giant spider alone. It was from this event that he started to feel like a different person, more powerful and bolder than before.

One of the bravest things you can do is to continue

At the end of the story, Bilbo finds it difficult to protect the treasure from the fearsome dragon. It’s night ,and he is alone. He never leaves, but continues with the battle alone. This final battle is not just with the dragon, but also with his own will, to keep fighting despite not knowing how it will turn out.
